School Board Meeting-Live Blog by Patch

If you were unable to attend last night’s D135 School Board Meeting, the Orland Park Patch provided fantastic coverage via a live blog.

Uneasy Transition for Orland School District 135 Board of Education

This was posted in the blog section of Local Voices in the Orland Park Patch in regards to the current situation with the school board in District 135.

vote

Polling places are open until 7pm.  Please do your best to get out and vote.  There are eight school board candidates vying for four open seats.  Many of you had a chance to meet with most of the candidates at a recent CARE135 meeting. Six of the candidates were nice enough to complete a questionnaire for CARE135 and their responses can be seen in the previous CARE135 blog post.  Although we are not endorsing candidates, we do urge you to read about them, ask your friends and neighbors and make your choice on the ballot today.

For the sake of our children, our school district and our property values, get out and vote!

D135 School Board Candidate Questionnaire Responses

Below are the answers in response to the CARE135 questionnaire that was distributed to all D135 Candidates for School Board via email in February.  Not all candidates have returned the questionnaire at this point and we will make them available as we receive them.  We are still awaiting responses from Tom Cunningham and Ann Gentile.

Please feel free to use the comment section of this site for further inquiries.

The CARE135 Meet the Candidate night was a huge success with 5 of the 8 candidates attending.  Many of our community members came out as well and we were able to get a better understanding of each candidate and their views.

Remember, early voting starts Monday, March 25th.  Please see the next post where you will find the completed Candidate Questionnaire of 6 of the 8 candidates.

Our next meeting will be held during the 3rd week of April, check back soon for updates.

Thank you,

CARE135

Join us tomorrow, January 31st, for the next CARE135 meeting! It will be held at 7pm at the Cultural Center, Room 101, located at 14760 Park Lane.

Special guests include School Board candidate Michael Carroll and Village Trustee Pat Gira.

Discussion will include the upcoming election and the intergovernmental agreements between the village and District 135. Being an informed citizen of our community can help all of us make better choices at election time. Hope to see you there!

Goals

Increase transparency between all parties. Promote horizontal decision making. Advance technology in the classroom. Decrease bureaucracy where it exists to protect special interests.

*The goals have been changed to exclude the text “promote and endorse school board candidates.” This change has been made due to the fact that CARE135 does not plan to promote or endorse candidates, but rather, open up dialogue between all school related positions (hired and elected) and the community.

Another school year is almost upon us.

We have decided to old off on meeting until September. Due to popular demand, it will be held in the evening to accommodate more members whose work schedules did not allow them to attend the morning meetings.

Our first CARE135 meeting of the school year will be held on Sept 25th at 7pm in room 109 at the Franklin Loebe Center.

Guests and topics to be announced. See you there!
